Trendy Tuesday: DIY Mercury Glass
Trending Alert….Mercury Glass! Have you seen this in Michael’s Craft store, a recent wedding, or all over Pinterest?
You also might have noticed that this lovely Mercury Glass can be quite pricy $$$ Of course there are ways to get around that, so Chanda and I set out to attempt to make our own glass for our upcoming Christmas party.
- Glass vessels (vases, candle holders, hurricanes, etc.)
- Krylon Looking Glass Spray Paint (sold at Miner’s Ace)
- Spray Bottle
- White Vinegar
- Paper towels
Start off with collecting your vessels, we hunted ours down at the local Goodwill- score!
Now it’s time to move outdoors and spray the inside of the vessels- just be sure to not spray too much because it will drip! Also know that it will take about 5 light coats to cover the inside completely. Let them dry for about 5 mins.
All done with your tagging?
Now it’s time to mix 50% white vinegar and 50% water into your spray bottle. Give a light mist inside of each vessel and let sit for about 1 minute.
Time to rub off the drops, rub gently with your palm. If you want to remove a larger chunk simply use your fingertips more when you rub. Work from the bottom of the vessel towards the top so you don’t remove too much paint.
And ready for this spotted beauty?
So dreamy and romantic! We can’t wait to set the ambiance with our new candles for Christmas!!
