Cold & Flu Fighting Apple Green Tea Turmeric Tonic

I don’t know about you but Billy has had the cold once, the flu once and both Chanda and I have caught the cold all in the last month and a half- not okay!(Not quite the trend we wanted for trendy tuesday, huh?) So here we are with a remedy to prevent the cold and flu (and it’s actually pretty tasty!!). We snagged this over here.

Cold & Flu Fighting Apple Green Tea Turmeric Tonic

A quick and easy remedy for any cold or flu. 

Servings: 4 cups
  • 4 1/2 cups purified or spring water
  • 1 large organic fuji apple cut into wedges
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tsp organic turmeric powder
  • 2 inch pice fresh, peeled ginger cut into chunks
  • 2 tsp organic virgin coconut oil
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp raw honey
  • 2 organic tea bags
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  1.  Pour water into a saucepan and add apple wedges, cinnamon sticks, turmeric, ginger, coconut oil, cayenne, black pepper, and vanilla. Stir to combine and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.

  2. Once mixture comes to a boil, reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, add green tea bags and stir together.  Let tonic simmer for 3-5 minutes longer to allow the tea to steep.

  3. After the tea has steeped, remove tea bags and stir in raw honey and lemon juice. Strain tea into a heat proof container and pour into serving cups.

  4. Add more honey if you like your tea tonic sweeter. You can also eat the cooked apples and ginger because they are yummy too! Enjoy hot. Tea tonic will last for 1 week if covered and refrigerated.
