Coconut Oil and a Quickie DIY Hand-Scrub
Trends, trends, trends! Sam’s recent expose on kale has totally inspired me to give a quick run-down on another HUGE food trend…dun dun dun: Coconut Oil (oh I guess the title already gave it away). Pinterest is literally swimming with inspiration!
Unless you have been hiding under a rock somewhere, I’m sure you have heard SOMETHING about the many miracles of coconut oil. Here is a super quickie highlight of this once infamous, now turned super star fat!If you are after some more 411, you can check out what the NY Times and Dr. Oz have got to say about this little wonder food….hmmmm gets ya thinking that you might want to invest in buying this slightly sweet fat in BULK!!
But, in all seriousness, I have now moved from just storing coconut oil in the kitchen, to keeping jars in the bathroom too!
The oil that makes my food delicious, is now making my hair and skin beautiful! My hair is silkier and less frizzy, and my skin is glowing! Oh, and remember my crazy “man hands” after finishing up this past wedding season? Well, one manicure and some routine coconut hand-scrub later….and I’m startin’ to feel like a girl again!! Phew.
Here is the 411 on the DIY!
Coconut oil (obviously) and some flaky kosher salt or sea salt will be your main ingredients. If you are after after some scent, I like to add in some lemon zest or jasmine oil…but you can get creative and personal.
Combine a 1/4 cup of coconut oil with a 1/4 cup of salt.
Time to try it out!
It is already working miracles! Can you say “baby’s butt”???
To store the rest of the scrub, choose an airtight container. I pretentiously chose a glazed terracotta jar from a Parisian yogurt (can you believe the fabulousness of packaging in France?!)
Ahh, coconut oil….c’est une joie to vivre!
