How to Make Your Own Sushi
It’s Thrifty Thursday and here is a fun idea to save some moohla when you have a sushi craving but don”t have the funds to back it!! Also, let’s face it, its way more fun to play around with flavor and combos when creating your own!! This would be a fun date night, family dinner or even girl’s night kind of dinner. So much color and variety for each guest to play around with!!
Grab your ingredients for some mouthwatering, Japanese goodness.
First it’s time to prep all your stuffings!
Start by throwing your sticky rice in the rice cooker, once done we are going to add some flavor with rice wine vinegar and sugar…
Now to chop up those veggies, keep in mind they will be rolled up and cut so think bite size!
Time to prep your seaweed…
Put a spoonful of the rice on one edge…
Smoked salmon- love that color!
I snuck in some cream cheese to my roll to make it more like a classic Philly Roll 🙂
Top with some siracha and lemon slices for a fresh twist!!

Grab yourself a sushi mat and some fresh ingredients to make your own Japanese cuisine!
- seaweed sheets (one sheet per roll)
- sticky rice
- rice wine vinegar (to taste)
- sugar (to taste)
- smoked salmon (optional)
- avocados, cucumber, carrots, lemons, etc (any veggies that sound good in a sushi roll)
- soy sauce
- wasabi or siracha
Start by throwing your sticky rice in the rice cooker. Once done, we are going to add some flavor with rice wine vinegar and sugar.
Chop up those veggies but keep in mind they will be rolled up and cut so think bite size! Thin matchsticks for the cucumber. Slice your lemons and avocado.
Then grab your sushi mat and add a layer of Seran wrap to keep things clean.
Add a spoonful of the rice on one edge. Then have some fun with adding veggies, smoked salmon, or even cream cheese.
Then roll up your mat tightly. Now slice your sushi and garnish it with lemon slices and siracha!
