Strawberry Basil Wine Spritzer
Happy Memorial Day Weekend Zesties!! Whether you are on the road this weekend or at home doing house projects (ehm that’s me and billy) be sure to take a second to breathe. What does that look like to you? Maybe no noise, maybe that’s creating something, or maybe even stopping to enjoy the view with a beverage. Well that’s what it looked like for me at one point- ha! Hence this delicious Strawberry Basil Wine Spritzer. I love spritzer’s because they are so easy to make but yet so refreshing and simple. The best part too-you can save wine that maybe has been opened for a day longer than you would have hoped. Let’s get to creating….
1 cup Strawberries
1 cup Basil leaves
1/2 cup Sugar
1/2 cup water
First you want to make a simple syrup. A simple syrup is your flavor base, you could make all kinds of combos-lavender honey? lemon verbena? watermelon mint? But today we conquer strawberry basil- yum!
Put sugar and water in a small saucepan, stir and heat until it boils; sugar will dissolve and the syrup will be clear. Add strawberry and basil leaves, stir to submerge all leaves, and turn heat off. Allow leaves and strawberries to steep until liquid cools, 30-45 minutes or so. Next blend all the strawberries and leaves together to add some specks of green. Gorgeous! Store in a jar in the fridge to have on hand. You could add to cocktails or even iced tea or lemonade.
Next add equal parts wine and sparkling water, top with some simple syrup (the more the sweeter). Find a sunny spot and enjoy!!
