This may be a recipe that automatically gets you excited, or it may be one that your will be skeptical of. However, let me just say that this little gem is literally my kid’s favorite snack. We are by no means a family that defines ourselves by vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, or anything else that boxes us in. Thankfully, my kids and husband are just as adventurous in the kitchen and with their tastebuds as I. We love all good food! And this extra firm tofu recipe happily falls under the category of “good food.” It is surprising, scrumptious and easy. Kind of a perfect combination, if you ask me!
Here is the 1,2,3 of how to make it at home:
The ingredients are simple:
Sesame & Honey Tofu Snacks
- one package extra firm tofu
- olive oil for sautéing
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup honey or agave
- seasame seeds for sprinkling
The most important step to this recipe is really pressing and soaking up extra liquid from the tofu. Use a few paper towels or a clean kitchen towel to make this job a cinch.
Once your tofu is dry, go ahead and slice it somewhere between 1/4″ and 1/2″ slices.
Now, simply “fry” them in a large pan or on a griddle with olive oil.
Once they are golden on both sides, mix your soy sauce and honey.
Pour the sauce over your sizzling tofu, cooking until most of the liquid evaporates and the tofu caramelizes in the sauce a bit. It will look rather dark…and delicious!
Serve hot, sprinkled with sesame seeds….and be surprised! Maybe you will find out that you like tofu 🙂
