Ever had a passionfruit? Don’t they just scream exotic and tropical? Well truth be told you have probably had a passionfruit before and may not have known it- they are actually an ingredient in Hawaiian punch! So fun! All that to say one of their biggest seasons for harvest is late summer, so here at Zest we are ready to jump on that ship!! Now you might be asking yourself, how do I shop for a passionfruit? You can buy them at most grocery stores, simply give the fruit a sniff and choose the most fragrant one you can find. The darker and more wrinkles in the skin the better! If you can’t seem to find a passionfruit that is ripe, snag what you can and let the passionfruit sit on the counter for a few days like most fruits. Then get to gathering your mojito ingredients….hollerrrr….
As with any Mojito fresh mint is a MUST, but I think my favorite part about this recipe is simply the color! Yellow is one of my all time favorite colors so that gorgeous passionfruit pulp has got me doing the happy dance. Plus did you know the seeds are edible? Simply cut the fruit in half and spoon out the gorgeous pulp and seeds!
Then get to mixin’ and muddlin’
“shake shake shake”
Fun Fact- the passionfruit got it’s name because the vines spiky flower reminded 16th century missionaries of the Passion of Christ- gotta love that!
Then top with club soda- bubbles!!
Refreshing, tasty and colorful- you can't go wrong with this recipe!
