Grain free doggie cake
My little chocolate lab just celebrated his one year birthday- hallelujah! He has definitely given us an eventful year with eating rocks and having his stomach pumped to having allergic reactions and having to go into surgery to remove fabric he consumed from a prednisone overdose! Yeppp- eventful to say at the least, but since I don’t have kiddos yet I took this opportunity to take a stab at making my own doggie cake. Aka spoil my fur babies!! (hey gotta do it while I still can) tee hee. My three fur babies eat a grain free dog food so it only seemed fitting to make a grain free cake as well. This cake was super easy to make and I assume yummy as well?
Really the only prep necessary is to grate your apple, otherwise get to mixing and stirring!
Time to make our frosting! I love using PB Fit or any powdered peanut butter because the amount of calories is reduced but the flavor is still SO great. With an 80 lab I think we can use less calories for this birthday cake- ha!
See how simple it is!! Simply add water to create the creamy peanut butter paste! Then it’s time to frost and decorate, my favorite part!! I popped my cake into the fridge for 20 minutes after frosting to get the peanut butter to firm up a bit.

This healthy yet delicious cake will be sure to make your doggies tail wag!!
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 egg
- 1 whole apple grated
- 1/2 cup carrots
- 3 tbs PB fit (powdered peanut butter)
- 1 tsp coconut oil
- 1 cup PB fit (powdered peanut butter)
- 1/2 cup water (add more/less as needed)
1 Preheat oven to 350* and mix all ingredients in large bowl. Grease round cake pan with coconut oil and fill with batter. Bake for 30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely on baking rack and prepare frosting meanwhile. For frosting stir 1 cup PB Fit or powdered peanut butter with 1/2 cup water to create paste. Add more or less water as needed. Frost your cake and decorate with dog treats. Refrigerate if needed to let peanut butter harden.
