Easy Natural Olive Oil Facial
I have never been one to hide my age. I am 38 years old and darn proud of it! It means that I have had 38 fantastic years at this thing called life! I have journeyed through so many milestones like college life, working jobs I loved, working jobs I hated, getting married to my best friend, becoming a mother, and traveling the road of an entrepreneur with my dearest friend. It has been a journey of joy, and a journey of loss as I traversed the experience of losing my sweet aunt and my father to illness last year. All in all, life is good. It is a blast at times, and it can be gut-wrenching at others.
Yes, I am 38. Yes, I am usually sleep deprived. Yes, I do not always have the time to eat right…or even exercise (my guiltiest moments are when I realize how much time has elapsed between hikes when living is such a gorgeous place!). Yes to all of that….but my skin does not have to reveal all of that story. Can I not just look like I am serene inside and out? I want a clean, radiant, and peaceful beauty that shows how comfortable I am in my own skin. That is when I say “hallelujah!” to the trend towards natural oils in beauty care. I love the bare-bones-simplicity of using minimal, natural products to bring out your best!
Of late, my facial routine has been to “wash” my face with a simple mix of olive oil and a drop or two of melaleuca oil (aka Tea Tree Oil). It is amazing! While the melaleuca oil helps with any breakouts or irritation, the olive oil perfectly matches my skin’s ph levels. Talk about gentle!
You might be surprised at how amazing this makes you skin feel! I know that many of you are thinking, “Oil? On your face?? Are you kidding me???” I totally understand your reticence. It seems weird, until you discover how quickly oil dissolves impurities and completely obliterates any makeup (even waterproof mascara).
After massaging the oil mixture onto you face, grab a washcloth and run it under hot water. Rest the warm/hot washcloth over face for a bit, letting the heat work it’s magic on the oil. Then simply wipe off!
Happy skin! I do this every night now, followed by my favorite moisturizer, and then just rinse with water in the morning and apply sunscreen. It is simple, fast, and feels great! I love what it is doing for skin overtime. I have read how others have had an initial reaction to oil facials in way of mini breakouts, as their skin adjusted, but my skin has been smooth and soft. It may be the addition of the melaleuca oil staving off any breakouts before they begin. Regardless, I say “holler!” My skin is happy and the simplicity makes my life even more joyful!
Remember to take care of your skin! It is your largest organ and you have it for life!
