DIY Body Butter
This trend is alive and well for all of us granola loving, acai bowl devouring, and essential oil obsessed peeps. Perhaps you have become disenchanted with commercially marketed products after reading ingredient lists, or perhaps you are just an extreme DIYer who loves to surround themselves with handcrafted luxuries.
Regardless of your bent, the trend of homemade lotions and body butters is here to stay.
For me, personally, I adore knowing exactly what is going on my skin. It is our largest organ, and it absorbs into our systems anything and everything that we put on it. This is the reason that I wash my face with olive oil and try to be minimalistic when it comes to ingredients that I put on my skin. Hence the recipe for this DIY body butter that is both luscious in texture and in scent.
1 cup of Coconut oil
1/4 cup of olive oil
10 drops of ylang ylang essential oil
10 drops of grapefruit essential oil
(optional: use frankincense and lavender for a soothing rendition of this body butter)
The key to this recipe is using a mixer. In the past, I have used straight, unadulterated coconut oil on my skin. It is nourishing, for sure, but I loathe how hard it can be when cold. Whipping the coconut oil with the olive oil, helps the consistency rich a decadent body butter consistency.
Simply add all of your ingredients and give it a fierce whip in the machine!
Feel free to choose the essential oils that you prefer. Here, I chose ylang ylang and grapefruit for a pick-me-up. I also love to use frankincense and lavender for a perfectly calming remedy at night.
I adore how luscious the whipped texture is…so creamy and smooth!
Next time, I am going to give shea butter (as opposed to olive oil) a try!
