Here is to a fabulous date night with THIS handsome guy (who ALWAYS manages to dodge a lens!)
Since we have three kids who are in soccer, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Brownies, and Youth Group…date night can be a kinda rare commodity. Actually, in truth, we tend to love hanging out as a family when there is no schedule and place to be. Usually, it’s a hike, a movie, or hanging with friends….and it almost always involves a ton of laughter (I have got some pretty hilarious kids, and Sean and I lead the way with practical jokes/pranks)! However, when Sean and I sneak out for a moment together, it usually revolves around raw fish. Yup, we are mutually addicted to sushi or almost every sort (ummm have I ever shared with you about the time that Sean actually ate a delicacy that involved the unmentionables of a whale while traveling in Korea….YIKES!)
So, with a night out, we headed over to Yanagi Sushi Grill in Paso Robles for some scrumptious sushi….and not of the yucky sort LOL
How about some crazy delicious garlic roll? They do such an awesome job with cutting the garlic mandoline-thin and getting them super crisp. It is an explosion of textures. LOVE.
We also ordered something that was not on the menu. In our favorite LA sushi hot-spots, they refer to it as a spicy tuna biscuit. At Yanagi’s, they call it a spicy tuna UFO. Whatever you want to call it…it is simply delicious! Imagine sticky rice that has been deep fried to a crisp and then topped with spicy tuna and fresh avocado. Gorgeous! Oh, and the presentation? Ditto! Gorgeous!
Then we had their lovely oysters. I loved their slightly spicy and fresh sauce. Nom-nom.
Finally, the piece de resistance! My favorite Aji. A lovely dish of spanish mackerel sashimi that is finished off with the skeleton being deep fried like a potato chip! I guess it is kind of adventurous for most, but to me it is simply fabulous!
If you are looking for something a little bit more “cooked”…they also have grill tops.
A great date night! Great conversation, lots of laughs, lots of great food, and some Nigori to wash it all down with!
Hope you get a chance to check out Yanagi’s soon!
