Watercolor Sea Salt Art

If you have not caught on yet you will quickly see that Chanda and I have a hankering for all things water color. We love the natural organic look and all the colors blending and flowing- plus it’s pretty darn therapeutic to us when painting. Today I am going to show you a fun tip and trick that I love to do to my watercolor painting to create extra texture. What’s great is that it requires no extra skill and is super easy!! I am making these watercolor creations and then going to scan them in to use as my very own laptop desktop and iPhone background. We will be giving you these freebie downloads over on the shop.zestitup.com email subscription!

Supplies for art:

  • Watercolor paper
  • Watercolor set
  • Paint brushes
  • Blue Painters Tape
  • Water
  • Coarse salt

First tape down your paper to your work surface and then make whatever design you please!

One you are taped off go ahead and begin painting, then sprinkle salt over the paint and watch the salt absorb the color before your eyes! The more water content the more to absorb!

Once dry, peel back the tape carefully to reveal your design…

Make sure the watercolor is completely dry and then brush the salt into the trash carefully, as to not smear the art!

Be sure to subscribe to our shop emails to get fun freebies and updates, these beauties will be available for download in Tuesday’s email so sign up now here at the bottom of page!

Happy painting friends!
