This week’s Trendy Tuesday was inspired by serious jewelry envy and a little stop at the hardware store with Mrs. Chanda. Yes, jewelry and hardware… mix those two together and you get one major fashion statement. Statement jewelry is a huge way to intensify an everyday outfit or any night time look. Stick with the industrial and bold look of the gold, aluminum and copper tones or mix it with pops of color for a beautiful juxtaposition of hard metal textures and bright colors.
Below you will find some pieces Chanda and I found particularly unique and powerful, inspiration of hardware jewelry done right, as well as a DIY tutorial of some pieces my dad (YES, my dad) helped me conceptualize and create!
Obsessed with the gold hose nozzles and leather combo!
Short statement necklace with those large hardware pieces look simple, yet strong!
See what I mean with that industrial gold and bold color!
This silver “S” bangle humbly held and twisted together by gold wire embraces the pure metallic power of hardware.
Nuts and washers woven into friendship bracelets!! Here are some photos from Chanda and I’s stop at our local hardware store, Miners to revel in all that is copper, silver and gold! AND… It is always an extra bonus watching the “manly” men listen to us drool over hardware, visualizing what an awesome accessory it would make!Seriously still swooning over some of that metal goodness! The best part is… check out those prices! 99 cents? Yes please! As promised, here are some simple hardware jewelry DIY that only takes $5 and a quick trip to the hardware store and/or a good rummage through your tool box (in my case… my dad’s hehe)! For the most part, you can work with whatever you desire! I chose some cut wire from Lowes and some leather strips my mom had in her bead room! But as pictured, you can use rope, yarn, wire, etc.! Some essential tools for this project are: – Wire cutters – Pliers – Crimp tool (and we even needed a hammer for some tricky crimps!)Wire bracelets: – Desired thickness of wire – Hardware “charms” desired ( i love mixing metallics!) – Appropriate wire crimps – A cloth
Leather bracelet and necklace: – Leather of your choice (or rope/yarn) – Desired charm or hardware pendant – And a slip knot! (slip knot help)
AND… the final products!Hope you all enjoyed this non-traditional jewelry craft that shows hardware is for girls too! Now, maybe it’s time for me to get a tool box! Unitl next time, xx Brittany
