Woot-woot! 4 days til my lovely sister walks down the aisle!
We are so excited! I have been super busy finishing up last minute projects, which I am thrilled to share with you. Let’s see….I have been working in concrete, buying rebar, baking cakes and key lime mason jar pies, working with wine staves, dying dresses, developing graphics, and working in leather. Random, random, random. However, things are shaping up, and there is nothing better than seeing things that have been living in your head begin to take shape in reality. I LOVE creating!!
Here is a quick peek at my experimenting for bridesmaid bracelets. My sister’s main color selections are grey and a bright green, with accents of hot pink. We will all be in assorted grey maxis, so I thought green jewelry would be a perfect accent. Hmmmmm….let’s see….
- leather cord/laces
- beads, in color of choice
- embroidery thread, in coordinating color
- wire, for folding over and twisting to make a “needle” for threading beads
The steps are crazy easy! I found this great diagram on About.com:
So, here I go!!
Fold your leather lace in half, and tighten the slip knot over the folded end…making a loop of leather.
It is kind of like making those “old school” hair wraps. Easy!
Once I had a decent strength/thickness on the wrap, it was time to work with beads!
I was concerned about having a needle that would be tiny enough to thread through the beads, but have a large enough eye to be easy when it came to threading 3 strands of embroidery thread through it. Tall order! So, I chose to take some fine gauge wire, fold it in half and give it a twist. Viola! A pointy needle-like end with a large eye. This made the project go soooo much faster!
Just keep going until you have reached the length you desire. I then finished it off with some more “hair wrapping” technique, in order to give it strength and a bit of Boho Chic.
Last step, I strung some heavy beads and tied knots to make an easy closure.
I am loving how this turned out!
However, I am a little torn. I was wanting to make bridesmaid bracelets, but this feels a tad too Boho for my sister’s wedding.
I think I am going to play around with something more delicate….maybe a single leather lace wrap….maybe something like this:
I am going to do some more wrapping with the embroidery thread, but I think I am headed in a better direction for this weekend.
