With this Seasonal Sunday, we are still on a New Year’s resolution kick! We are all looking to treat our bodies better after all the holiday indulgences. Some of mine are to drink more water, exercise regularly, eat healthier, and spend more quality time unplugging with loved ones. Easy to list, but not easy to do! Instead of being overwhelmed, I am taking things one baby step at a time. Happily, some of those steps are super delightful…and this post just happens to be one of those!

I absolutely adore a glass of hot matcha mixed with some almond milk and honey. It is honestly a little slice of heaven. The fact that it has so many health benefits is just a bonus (a major bonus!). If you are scratching your head as to what the heck matcha is, let me explain. Quite simply, it is the Japanese answer to green tea. As opposed to the standard brewing of the tea leaves in hot water, matcha is all the tea leaves ground into a fine powder. Essentially, you ingest the entire leaf, as opposed to drinking water that has absorbed some of it’s nutrients. With that said, I am sure that it seems completely logical now that matcha holds a ton of nutritional benefits.
So, I decided to think outside of my usual cup of hot tea and explore some ideas of making this beauty into a lovely morning smoothie. After all, if it was going to help my body, why not figure out how to incorporate it into my routine in other ways. The result of my experimenting was a super tasty little treat filled with honey, bananas, ginger and (of course) matcha!
Unfortunately, I did not find pure matcha when I stopped into my local Cost Plus World Market. I know that pure matcha would have more impact, so I will try my local Asian market next. However, I did find this super yummy matcha and ginger mix. The smoothie I made is simple and crazy delicious (I had to fight my husband for a taste because as soon as he realized I was making a matcha smoothie, he whisked into the kitchen and grabbed it as soon as I was done taking pix).
Matcha and Banana Smoothie with Almond Milk
2-3 tbls matcha powder
1 knuckle of ginger
1 banana (over-ripe makes for a sweeter smoothie)
1 cup of almond milk
1 tbls honey
Directions: Put all the ingredients in a blender, and blend til smooth. Serve cold.
The result is ridiculous! I mean, I think I have a new addiction. Thank goodness it is good for me!!
