For decades now, I have relished visiting my grandmother. Actually, visiting with her has always been a great favorite for me, but it took on a whole new elevation when she decided to move from Malibu, CA to Carmel, CA.
If you have never spent time in this quaint little town on the coast of California, you are seriously missing out. It has such a cool small-town-European vibe and it is loaded with incredible fine dining while being surrounded by stunning natural landscapes. Honestly, it is not often that you walk down Monterey Cypress studded streets with Relais & Chateaux rated establishments and intimate bistros leading straight down to a white sand beach at the base of town. Honestly, this is the place to spend a deliciously decadent and relaxing weekend. Carmel-by-the-Sea is a real treat.
We cannot wait to show you pictures from some of our exploring, but for the meantime, I wanted to share with you my ultimate breakfast spot. A cash only joint, Katy’s Place dishes up some of the best breakfast that I have ever had to tourists and locals alike. I kind of consider it a petty crime if I am in the area and fail to stop in at this cafe. I can remember vividly my 13 year old back when he was in diapers and a high chair here, a happy blue eyed boy playing with his Gramps while devouring his favorite meal of the day.
Obviously, I was DYING to take Sam and Billy here for some WOW cuisine.
With a little bit of Swiss Alps flair, Katy’s Place lets the natural surroundings and the food speak for themselves.
Be prepared, there is always a wait here, but they kindly hook-up the waiting list peeps with hot cups of coffee while they deliberate about what they will order when they get a seat. The menu is extensive, but the chalkboard of specials above the kitchen alone will keep you busy with choices.
This is one of my happy places, friends. They have 20 varieties of Eggs Benedict, homemade shredded corned beef, ridiculous Belgium waffles, and for those of us a tad bit more daring, kippers n’ eggs. If you love breakfast, you absolutely need to pilgrimage to Katy’s Place in Carmel-by-the-Sea.
With 20 varieties of Eggs Benedict, three guesses what we choseLOL
Dungeness crab meat nestled on a bed of fresh spinach.
Pulled pork & spicy Hollandaise
Canadian Bacon with truffle Hollandaise
sauce and truffle buttered muffins
With housemade corned beef hash
We wound up eating inside because we were hankering for breakfast to get in our bellies so badly, but I highly recommend sitting under the trees to watch all the passersby while listening to all the birds.
All in all, we had some crazy happy tummies and tastebuds!
