Honeycomb Lazy Susan

We finally had a saturday off from weddings, tastings, & photo shoots!! And Billy was away on a Fire for the last 21 days…..what does that mean? Garage Sale Saturday here I come!!! Now I must admit, I had every intention to go to the gym last Saturday….but somehow I was sucked into the 12 garage sales lined up the street before the gym, what ya gonna do?? So off to treasure hunting I went, and in so I found many gems that needed some Zest (stay tuned!). But one of my treasures was this lazy susan i scored for $3.00. In my new house I have darker cabinets in my kitchen so this lighter honey wood would just not cut it! Time to Zesssst….

2Meet Susan, she is lazy and needs a bath…

3Sand away the top surface so it’s nice and smooooooth

4Time to stain, I am going dark to match my kitchen cabinets

5Rub the stain in with an old cloth, you can wear gloves or be legit like me and ruin your nails

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAfter drying (I let sit for over 24 hours) pick out a fun stencil or print. Michael’s Craft Store has a ton of great ones….but I decided to make my own…honeycomb it is! (one of my favorite prints, gonna use this in touches throughout my new house)

7Bust out the exacto knife and time to get tedious!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERANext use a pencil to outline your print onto your wood

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAfter using the small pointed tip on my wood burner, it didn’t seem dark or deep enough into the wood so I did a second trace on the pencil with a grooved tip and that helped a lot! (just took quite awhile so be sure to get into the zen!)
